This November 3rd, democracy depends on ordinary people stepping up. We're recruiting volunteers to help voters, monitor polling locations, report issues, gather data, and ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot without confusion, barriers, or intimidation. Whether you're stationed inside or outside at a polling place, you'll help protect the voting process, raise awareness of voters' rights, and flag problems as they arise. If you're concerned about possible voter intimidation or the chilling effect that immigration enforcement concerns can have on participation, this is your chance to make a difference. Join us and help ensure every voice is heard. Both BURN (Berks Urgent Response Network) - BOW’s parent organization - and PA Dems are in need of bilingual and English speaking volunteers. Whether you can give a full day or just a few hours, your presence at the polls helps protect every voter's right to cast a ballot. There are two different types of observers needed:

Inside Poll Observers

PA Dems are in need of poll observers, who need to be registered voters (you do not have to be a democrat) who will watch the polls from inside an election location. This role requires a brief training that awards you a certificate allowing you in a Berks polling location to observe. Training sessions are available on the following days:

  • Monday, Oct 5, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, Oct 8, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

  • Saturday, Oct 10, 2 - 3:30 p.m.

  • Monday, Oct 12, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Outside Poll Observers

BURN, in conjunction with Make the Road, is seeking outside poll observers for high-priority polling locations throughout Berks County. This role is to inform people of voting rights if they are denied at the polls, watch for voter intimidation, and document any ICE activity at these locations. Training sessions are available on the following days:

  • Friday, October 16, 6 p.m. - (Spanish) Make the Road office (722 Cherry Street)

  • Sunday, October 18, 6 p.m. - (English) virtual meeting links via email

  • Monday, October 19 12 p.m. - (English) virtual meeting links via email
