"A Lien" Immigration Discussion Draws a Crowd in Wyomissing

On Monday, September 28, BOW held a movie screening at Wyomissing Public Library of the Oscar-nominated film “A Lien.” The event drew a large crowd, with standing room only for some viewers.
“A Lien” is a 2023 American short drama film written and directed by David Cutler-Kreutz and Sam Cutler-Kreutz and executive produced by Adam McKay. The film follows a young married couple and their daughter as they navigate the immigration process at a federal building, only to find the agency detaining and deporting people lawfully arriving for immigration appointments. You can watch the 14-minute short film here.
Following the film, BOW presented additional facts about how and why immigrants are being deported. Aldea director Bridget Cambria was on hand to convey her personal experience as an immigration attorney and answer legal questions from the audience. Several audience members also shared their own experiences on the issue. Following the Q&A, BOW representatives informed the audience about how they can voice their opinions and act to change cooperative practices Berks County government currently has with ICE.
